Oh yeah, I have a blog….

It’s been over a month now since I’ve wandered over to LJ. Oops. My apologies for completely failing to blog last month (and keep up with all of your blogs – I’ll do my best to catch up soon). It’s not that I didn’t want to blog, in fact I had several ideas for blog posts, I just never acted on them. Really, it feels like September 1st happened and then suddenly it was September 30th just like that. I didn’t realize how quickly time was getting away from me until it was gone.

So since I’ve failed to do all my usual postings, I’m just going to do a quick summary of September all in one post. I promise to make it as short as possible.

In September I….

  • Threw my sister a Baby Sprinkle for my 2nd nephew Abel (who’s scheduled to arrive on Halloween!). It was extremely overwhelming in the food prep department (12 hours the day before, 9 hours the day of), but overall a beautiful event. You can see pictures HERE.
  • Got THESE awesome books in the mail. YAY for the return of pre-orders!
  • Read 4 books. I really had hoped to read more, but since one of these 4 books was the size of 3 books there just wasn’t time for anymore.
September Reads

Boys that Bite (Blood Coven, Book 1) by Mari Mancusi
Fathomless (Fairytale Retellings, Book 3) by Jackson Pearce
The Dream Thieves (Raven Cycle, Book 2) by Maggie Stiefvater
Styxx (Dark-Hunter, Book 23) by Sherrilyn Kenyon

  • Wrote 770 words. This is shameful, I know. I’m trying a new tactic this month to get back in my 5K game. Fingers crossed it helps.
  • Listened to a lot of random indie tracks. My favorite Music Friday tracks can be heard HERE, HERE, and HERE.
  • Started training for the Color Run. Mom and I get up at 5am to run before work. It felt insane at first, but I rather like it now – even with my forever aching muscles.
  • Went to the Milburn Orchards with Gideon like last year. If you’d like, you can see pictures HERE.
  • Saw the end of two of my favorite TV shows, Dexter and Breaking Bad. I wrote a reflective piece about show endings HERE.

So that’s basically it. Maybe you didn’t really miss much by my lack of blogging. How was your September?

In which I bore you with my TV preferences :)

Recently we upgraded our TV service to include DVR (the ability to record/store shows you'll miss otherwise). I always thought this seemed like an unnecessary expense, but since it was on sale and actually cheaper than the existing service we had I decided to give it a shot. I have been overly pleased with this decision as it grows more and more difficult for me to stay up as late as my favorite TV shows come on during the work-week. Now with DVR we can have mini-marathon's on the weekends to catch up. Last night was one of those marathon nights and good Lord it was filled with awesome.

First: Sons of Anarchy

Opie, my heart has ached for you since Season 1 and Season 4 has only proved to be even tougher for you. This week you got yours and I cheered for you like you can't believe! Opie is the man!

Second: The Walking Dead

Rick, you're my favorite. You'll always be my favorite. You have that wholesome good-guy charm, you're brave, you're selfless, and you're also easy on the eyes. With all that being said, half the people you bust your ass to protect – to love, don't deserve you and that includes Lori and Shane. Just saying…

Third: American Horror Story

Constance, you are the root of all evil and I love you. I love your crazy ass creepy son, Tate, too. Twisted runs deep in your blood, doesn't it? *This show has turned out so much better than I expected when I started watching it, though I'm not all that confident that it will stick around for long. Hopefully they will at least give it a proper closing.

Thank you, DVR, for allowing me to enjoy TV and still hit the sheets by my bed time. 🙂

**Now if only I could afford Showtime and HBO so I could catch up on Dexter and True Blood, too….

Peace – Sarah

Miscellaneous Monday

1. I actually wrote this weekend instead of reading. The restraint was difficult, but I managed. I only wrote a little over 3,000 words though which isn’t very impressive, however those 3,000 words brought conclusions to 4 different chapters I was writing at the same time so in a way I feel accomplished and glad to finally be able to move on from those chapters.

2. As far as reading is concerned, I’m starting DARK SIDE OF THE MOON (Dark-Hunter, Book 10) today and hope that I can make it stretch until the remaining Dark-Hunter books arrive which BTW I thought I had ordered the last 5 of the other day, but was apparently wrong and would have them out of order if I hadn’t also ordered the 4 Dream-Hunter novels as well… so I did yesterday. That’s going to be a total of 10 books arriving this week because I also already had THE REPLACEMENT on pre-order. I’ve decided officially, with the exception of pre-orders that I must have when they come out, my book buying days are over until after Christmas. I have more than enough books to read until then and I’ve got to stop spending so frivolously.

3. Also book related… I won a book! And not just any book either, an autographed copy of BOYS THAT BITE by Mari Mancusi via Beside the Norm. Thank you Heather (a.k.a. edgyauthor). I’ve never won anything before, nor do I have any autographed books. I’m excited like you can’t believe!

4. I’ve had an unexplainable numbness in my right hand for two days now that’s starting to concern me. Not to mention it’s making it difficult to do much with my hands (which means everything in my life). My hand was actually swollen when I woke up this morning, to the point that I couldn’t wear my rings. Any thoughts?

5. I’m overly eager for the season premiere of BIG BANG THEORY this week. Heath and I are also going to give VAMPIRE DIARIES a shot this season since TRUE BLOOD is over until next summer and the only other show we watch faithfully is DEXTER which we still need to catch up on a bit before it returns.

Good, but not good enough (right now)

Well the first Dexter book is great and extremely well written, but it’s just not holding my attention right now. Maybe it’s because I already know what happens, or maybe because like the Sookie Stackhouse collection I’m holding off on reading I’d rather read it when the TV show is in season. But I think the biggest reason is because before I received any of these glorious new additions to my library the one I was itching to read the most was “Beautiful Creatures”. Now that it’s in my possession the mere sight of it when passing my bookshelf makes me want to put Dexter down which means I’m not giving Dexter everything I should anyway.

Giving Dexter a break and moving onto “Beautiful Creatures”… even though I said I wouldn’t :/

– Surrounded by clouds… of doubt –

Something’s not right with me. Everything feels off, like I’m watching someone else walk around in my body (and do a poor job at it). Maybe it’s just the rain.

I’m feeling unusually negative lately about a lot of things. Overall I just feel down, like I would be depressed if I actually allowed myself to be (but I won’t). Still I feel detached from the fire in me, the belief. I’m finding myself doubting my ability more than believing I will actually get to share it with people.

I think about the writers I love and I just can’t see myself worthy of being in the same class. I try to remind myself that they probably all started out like me, but for some reason I can’t make the thought stick. I hate feeling like this, thinking like this – it goes against the way I try to live. I know I have the strength to pull myself out of this funk, but right now I’m having a hard time accessing it.

I might start reading the Dexter series sooner than I thought now. Might be nice to read from a serial killers point of view and see what that’s like. Also I’m quite interested in the bloody element of the storyline, there’s a lot to learn from that for my story.

I’ve got to feed my mind something and right now it’s not writing. Maybe reading will do the trick.
